Conference Information

Letter of Invitation
The Organising Committee will issue a letter of invitation upon request. The sole purpose of the letter is to facilitate the delegate’s travel and visa arrangements. The invitation does not imply provision of financial or other support.

Language
The official language of the Symposium is English.

Certificate of Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be issued to all delegates.

Liability
The Organising Committee will not be liable for personal accidents, loss or damage to private properties of participants during the conference. Participants should make own arrangements with respect to personal insurance.

Travel Information

Overview
Penang, an island just off the northwest coast of Malaysia, forms a part of the Malaysian state of the same name. The major city on the island, George Town, is also often called Penang. The island offers a wealth of tropical beaches, historic sights, and one of the best opportunities to experience the diversity of Malaysian culture.

Currency
The Malaysian currency is the ringgit, divided into 100 sen (cents). The currency is abbreviated both as RM and MYR. Credit cards are generally accepted in hotels and major shopping outlets. Here are the most recent exchange rates for some common currencies. Click here to view exchange rates.

Taxes
Hotels and restaurants add a government tax of 5% and a service charge of 10%.

Weather
Penang has a typically tropical climate of warm, sunny weather throughout the year. Rain is most frequent from November to January, but can be expected in any month.

Airport Connections
Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Hotel, located on Penang's finest beach, the famed Batu Feringgi Beach. Only 20 minutes' drive from George Town and 45 minutes from the Penang International Airport. Taxis and private limousines are available at the arrival halls until the last flight. All transportation fares are fixed with issuing of receipt.
